Internship opportunities
Practice opportunities
What is more important in the study process – theory or practice? Just like in the ancient riddle about the chicken and the egg, answering this question is not easy. But how to determine what is more important for a student? Is one of the areas really more important than the other? Is it possible to acquire both theoretical knowledge and get to know the practical side in the study process?
Theory – the basis of knowledge and the basis of understanding
Theory provides fundamental concepts and a systemic understanding of the principles, regularities and systems of various sciences. It is a tool that allows a specialist to navigate information, critically evaluate and analyze.
Practice – a real view of working life
Theory is an essential, yet incomplete knowledge base when it comes to entrepreneurship, tourism, law, healthcare and other areas. That is why the Turība University has training rooms where tourism and hospitality students learn the skills of waiters or hotel employees, law students have an improvised courtroom, and communication students create audio, video and photo materials for campaigns in a digital studio equipped to modern standards. Practical knowledge is directly related to everyday work and is indispensable for successfully applying theory in a real work environment. Practice during the study process should be diverse – it should promote student skills and provide access to professionals. Turība is the only higher education institution in Latvia where the deans of faculties are themselves experts in the relevant fields, which is a huge benefit to students, and that is why entrepreneurs also study here.
Theory and practice – an equally important role in the study process
What can we conclude from all of the above? Both theory and practice play an equally important role in the study process. It is important to understand that without practice opportunities, the idea of a future profession may turn out to be incomplete. Both of these areas are essential if we want excellent results in terms of profession and working life. Therefore, neither theory nor practice should be neglected during the study process. Theoretical and practical knowledge complement each other and affect not only the content of study courses and programs, but also the career of students after obtaining education.
Since Turība University is a business-based and student-oriented international university that includes business thinking in all study areas, the study process is designed so that the student can use and develop his or her potential to the maximum. Turība's advantage is its high-quality and up-to-date study content offering, which is focused on acquiring professional knowledge and skills, combining business aspects with applied science in studies. The research conducted within the framework of master's and doctoral studies can be used by graduates to promote the competitiveness of their company, thus creating additional added value.
